Rebecca S. Mowen
Rebecca is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. She has worked with clients in both group counseling practices and agency settings. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Kutztown University.
Rebecca enjoys working with children ages 14 and older, adolescents, adults, and families. She helps clients who are challenged by Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, OCD, anger, chronic pain, grief and loss, GLBTQ issues, poor self-esteem, trauma, relationship, and adjustment issues.
Rebecca has had previous experience as a visitation monitor for children in foster care and their biological parents. She has had the opportunity to teach parents necessary skills to reconnect and create healthy bonds with their children and work towards their goals of regaining custody of their children. This opportunity has helped Rebecca counsel children and teens who are transitioning into foster care and adoption. Rebecca teaches children and adolescents how to reduce their stress and express themselves appropriately. She especially enjoys working with pre-teen and teenage girls, supporting them through the adjustments they face during this challenging period of their lives. She works with adults struggling with poor communication and trust issues and helps them learn better communication styles to assist them in strengthening their relationships. Rebecca counsels GLBTQ clients in their search to express themselves openly, honestly, and without fear.
She helps clients discover enjoyable coping skills to help improve their mood, functioning, and outlook on life. Rebecca utilizes skills such as humor, empathy, intuition and patience with her clients so they feel safe, comfortable, and confident sharing their feelings and experiences without fear of judgement or criticism. Rebecca finds that most clients come in with issues that they want to process with someone who is professional, unbiased and openminded, and who will validate their feelings, empathize with their needs, encourage them to meet those needs, and teach them coping skills to handle their stress better. She enjoys teaching self-care techniques and boundary-setting skills so that clients can gain a more balanced, peaceful life where their relationships are satisfying and fun rather than stressful and exhausting.
Rebecca’s counseling approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Strength-Based, and Person-Centered therapies.
